PHILOSOPHY
I believe:
We are all creative
Everyone can sing + no two voices are alike
Intuition is the real deal
To be effective in performance, we must be willing to be vulnerable
When women support each other, incredible things happen!
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
No two singers are alike – therefore, a one-size-fits-all pedagogical method doesn’t work for me. Instead, I draw upon years of formal education plus over two decades of research and study. I am especially interested in the intersection of science-based pedagogy, neurology, and the pursuit of a creative life. Advanced students wishing to know more about my pedagogical philosophy are encouraged to contact me.
A native of Newark, Delaware, Regina Adams has been teaching private voice for over 20 years.
Regina studied piano at an early age, and has studied voice seriously since her high school years. She continues to enhance her personal music education through her own study of the art of singing, attendance at conferences, participation in online music educational forums, and continued efforts to seek out the latest in the fields of vocal pedagogy, psychology, neurology and voice science. Regina holds a Master of Music degree in Voice from Indiana University-Bloomington, IN as well as a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Delaware.
Regina turned to full-time teaching after a rewarding career in voice performance in New York City. She has had the privilege of singing at Lincoln Center and many other notable venues with conductors such as Kurt Masur, John Adams, Joseph Flummerfelt, Christopher Hogwood, Paul Hillier and Claudio Abbado, including a solo debut at Carnegie Hall singing John Rutter's "Magnificat" and his adaptation of the Monteverdi "Gloria". Her discography includes recordings with the Indiana University Press, Hanssler Records and Harmonia Mundi.
Regina's singers have won over $200K in college scholarships to date. They have been accepted to prestigious collegiate music programs including Emerson College (BFA in Musical Theater), The Hartt School (BFA in Musical Theater), Temple University (BFA in Musical Theater), Roosevelt University (BFA in Musical Theatre), Long Island University (BFA in Musical Theater), Virginia Tech (Voice Performance), Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts (Musical Theater), the Disney College Program, and others. They have placed 1st in the state of Virginia for the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Musical Theater division, earned coveted spots at the Virginia Governor’s School (Vocal and Theater programs), placed 2nd in Virginia All-State H.S. Chorus, 1st in Virginia All-District M.S. Chorus, won honors at numerous regional competitions and are regularly given leads in school and regional musical theatre productions such as the Reston Community Players, Acting for Young People (AFYP) at George Mason University, Vienna Theatre Company, the Bel Cantati Opera Company, Alliance Theatre, ENCORE, Upper Room Theatre, and the Pied Piper Theatre. Regina’s Songbirds have also won vocal scholarships to area private schools and successfully auditioned for the ACDA National Honors Chorus, the Virginia All-State Chorus, the FCPS, LCPS and PWCS' All-County and All-District Choruses, the Reston Chorale, the Fairfax County Choral Society and the National Children’s Chorus.
